“Musically he felt like a long lost friend. We were always going to do a project together. We just needed time to know it.”
Falling in love with each other musically came first for the perfectly paired Dave Preston and Rachel James. Admiring each other’s musical works from afar, the two built very successful musical careers separately. After getting married, nothing made more sense than to try creating together. The two had already paired up, performing together in Rachel and the Kings. But when they started writing together they found a niche all their own somewhere between powerful vocal dynamics, orchestral guitar arrangements and lyrical detail. The two purposefully put on heartfelt and memorable shows and have incorporated that feeling into their newest recordings with their band, Dearling.
Dave Preston’s musical background is as varied and impressive as his skill with a guitar. He has played with: Justin Timberlake, Matt Morris, Charlie Sexton, Kelly Clarkson, Ingrid Michaelson, Emerson Hart, Keaton Simons, Tony Lucca, One Eskimo, Trace Bundy, Tab Benoit, Gregory Alan Isakov.
Rachel James’ songs have been used by Tyler Ward, Jess Moskaluke and had dozens of placements in television and advertising. Her songs and voice helped propel an earlier version of the band to win Ford’s Gimme the Gig II, beating out 2500 other bands from across the nation and winning her recording time with Don Was.
In it’s earliest months Dearling has already opened for Roberta Flack, Lenka and, played Festivals and shows all over Colorado.
Dave and Rachel along with Noah Matthews (bass) and Joel Matthews (drums) have created music meant to take the listener on a journey, lyrically and musically. With no lack of experience under their belts, Dearling is ready to make a lasting impression on their fans with their first album. “Whether it’s an intimate show or an arena, our highest intention is to connect with our audience and to make an impact.”
